EXECUTIVE REMUNERATION PLANNING REPORT

Executive remuneration has been in the spotlight for the last decade. The determination of Executive Remuneration has become a complex, emotive and challenging exercise. This is due in equal measures to the general awareness and high profile of executive earnings, the desire for good corporate governance and the critical need to attract and retain people of high calibre to run top companies.

The 5th publication of the LMO Executive Remuneration Planning Report was recently produced. On an annual basis the report provides comprehensive, market-related information and trends to contributing.

The LMO Executive Remuneration Planning Report enables you to:

  • Benchmark your senior positions against a national norm of leading organizations.
  • Compare your executives’ earnings (fixed and variable) against a selection of competitive organizations and comparable functional areas.
  • Enable you to match your positions globally across 50 countries.
  • Identify current market practices relative to executive remuneration.
  • Benchmark Non-executive Director remuneration.

Scope of the Survey

The survey includes positions ranging from the CEO, or most senior position in the organization, through to senior middle-management. Most participants have extended their submissions to the second level of management (often considered the most vulnerable to attrition) in addition to their top executives.

Positions and Job Matching

The underpinning methodology that ensures valid job matches across functions and organizations is the Watson Wyatt Global Grading process that is quick yet effective in its application. It provides a transparent audit trail determining the sizing of jobs relative to their knowledge, skills and competencies and to the size and complexity of the organization.

Jobs may by matched on function – all major functional areas are covered, and or level as determined by the Global Grading – ensuring market rates can be determined for typical positions i.e. CEO, Finance, HR, Marketing etc., and those that are difficult to match i.e. investment, strategic planning, project management, communications etc.

Survey Content:

  • Remuneration components

The data comprises:

  • Annual Basic Salary
  • Guaranteed Remuneration
  •  Actual and On-target Incentives
  • Total Package
  • Share option multiples are reported.
  • Remuneration practices and trends. A comprehensive coverage of issues linked to executive remuneration is analysed and reported.
  • Non-executive Director Remuneration is covered in-depth.

Modus Operandi

On confirming participation LMO will spend time with the organization understanding the organizational structure, its size and complexity. The jobs for submission to the survey will be graded in terms of the Global Grading process - this can be done through discussion with a knowledgeable person in the organization without the need to interview the executives concerned.
