THE SAMED REMUNERATION SURVEY

The South African Medical Device Industry Association (SAMED) / LMO Remuneration Survey consists exclusively of companies providing Hi-tech services to the national market. There are a number of positions included that are unique to service providers rather than users of the industry’s services.

The survey is run in collaboration with SAMED. The survey is in its 7th year of publication.

The “club survey” concept means that data is accessible only to participants and very much driven by their feedback and data needs. The survey covers around 40 positions in different job families, including Management, Sales and Marketing, Administration and Logistics, as well as an in-depth analysis of HR policies, practices and trends. .In 2008 nearly 30 SAMED member companies participated in the salary survey.

An annual feedback function is held after publication of the survey results, identifying trends and forecasts. It is an ideal opportunity for networking within the industry.

Job Matching

Jobs may by matched on function – all major functional areas are covered, and or level as determined by the various Grading systems in use in the South Africa – ensuring market rates can be determined for typical positions i.e. Finance, HR, Marketing etc., and those that are difficult to match i.e. Service Engineer/ Biomedical Technician/ Field Technician.

Scope

The SAMED survey covers most positions from management to the lowest level in the organization, including pre- and post sales & support, indirect/channel partner sales, bid management, business/alliance development, customer services, service engineering, biomedical technical assistance, field technical assistant, research & development and quality assurance, etc. The survey also caters for support functions such as logistics, purchasing, human resources, finance, legal, admin, etc. reducing the need to participate in too many different surveys.

Remuneration components: Annual Basic Salary, Guaranteed Remuneration, Total Package and Total Target Package with details on actual and target variable pay, car allowance values, company contribution to medical aid and retirement funding, other cash and non-cash payments.Companies are allocated a unique code which allows for direct comparison against the market.

Policies, practices and trends: A comprehensive coverage of issues linked to remuneration is analysed and reported.

Modus Operandi

On confirming of participation, LMO will spend time with the organization understanding the organizational structure, its size and complexity and assist new survey participants with job matching and submission of data.
